Weekly Photo Challenge – Movement ~ Songs of Lake Superior

This is a re-post from the very beginning of Post-a-day 2011, and according to stats, not many have seen or read it. It seemed to fit the bill for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement and since I am not moving very quickly at the moment (broken toe) I hope you enjoy! Next Sunday, July 15th is Lake Superior Day, so it seems doubly apt. You can learn more about celebrating the Lake at Lake Superior.
The photo includes ice, so if you are in one of the “heat zones,” close your eyes, imagine the sounds of waves, feel the cold water and enjoy the Songs of Lake Superior. Mmmmm… Feels great on my rainbow colored foot!

Lake Superior

I love the sound of Lake Superior singing, rushing, roaring, laughing,
and have not “seen” the Lake in daylight for days.
I visited her last night at dusk.
We talked quietly in the half-light.
Looking out as far as eyes could see,
she seemed unmoving, frozen, still,
resting in her cycle of winter.
I sang to her, as usual, off key.
She thanked me anyway.
I thanked her for being, always there, always patient.
Home, to rest, to recall her other songs.
This is one:
Beneath my ice
Water flows
In ebbing tides
My mystery grows
Moving water
Cannot freeze
Kept warm by unseen energies.
Rest, move, flow,
Rest, move, grow.
In your dreams
In your sleep
I’ll hold the secrets
Safe and deep.
Come spring
Sunlight dancing yet again
Sparkling laughter tossing
Beauty on the beach
mysteries to the wind.

May your day be filled with rest, action, food for thought, and most of all love.

Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Today

Today ~ June 10, 2012

June 10, 2012 5:55AM Lake Superior
…at last, sunrise on the beach

June 10, 2012
…Sunrise and the grass held crystal dewdrops… all is well once more.

It has been far too long since I have “allowed” myself this luxury… It feels as though I have been missing in action in my own life. Getting up early to get to work, not going to the beach. Coming home from work too tired, not going to the beach. Chasing fires…
Except when I am visually exploring, curious, sharing I feel as if I am living in scarcity, not doing what I love, in order to do what everyone seems to say I need to do in order to pay the bills… go to town, to an indoor job, security. I am so happy and grateful for two days off, just seeing the wonder I live in, shooting, seeing, shooting more… butterflies, snakes, blooming things, sky, sun, dew… and I feel feel so rich, so satisfied.

I watched a movie late last night, it was called “Happy thank you more please”. At first it seemed silly, too young… and then there was the scene in which the title became clear.
It’s a fun movie and with a perfect message for today.

So, I am expressing my gratitude to you and the universe in this way:
Happy!
Thank You!
More Please!
More Happy, more gratitude given and received, more please ~ Thank you. 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Together

Holey Stone - Empty and Full

Holey Stone – Empty and Full

Together – Light and Dark, Water and Waves, Sun and Moon, Pebbles and Stones, Empty and Full –

Saturday, May 5th, my plan was to be at the beach in time to catch the sun setting and the full moon rising – together. Two events happening within minutes of each other, an unusual event and one I love to see and share, especially from a particular beach on Lake Superior.

When I left home, the sun was bright and all looked promising. A ten-minute drive to this beach and everything changed. Clouds rolled in, uh-oh! the moon would not be visible tonight, and yet clouds often make for beautiful sunset colors. Arriving at the beach, the clouds had thickened even more. Undaunted, I walked to the water’s edge and instantly saw one of the shots I have been seeking… a Holy Stone, aka Holey Stone, being washed and filled by water.

It always amazes me how the Universe conspires to support me with miracles. I have been wanting this natural shot for some time, unwilling to fake it by placing one of these stones at the water’s edge to get the shot. Even when I do that, I am the one who knows I did it… and it feels like a little white lie.

Light and Dark ~ Water and Waves ~ Sun and Moon

Light and Dark ~ Water and Waves ~ Sun and Moon

The heavy cloud cover was creating darkness quickly, yet the chance to get the stone shot worked… and a little golden color glinted in the sky. Quiet and calm, nature and I, together, whispered Thank You. Life is good when I notice these small things, and go with the flow. Perfection happens when I accept the constancy of change. The full moon rose within minutes, anyway. There are some things we just know, even when we can’t “see” the evidence.

Post-a-day 2011: ~ Full Moon

Full Moon #791... and counting!

Full Moon #791

“I see the moon, the moon sees ME.
God bless the moon, and God bless thee!”

…A poem I learned somewhere along the way between 1 and 791 full moons. Many moons ago, my children and I would sing-song this as they were being tucked into bed, covers pulled up with a kiss goodnight on the forehead.
In the witnessing of 791 full moons, I have learned much, about life and the moon… Men have visited it, and no women that I know… and yet this full circle of feminine energy shows up every month, year after year to illuminate the planet, the universe. Predictable, on schedule, radiant.
This simple image is a note to myself. It is not photogenius. It is the moon over the woods near home, a moon shared by all. How does one capture an image of moon energy? Is it possible? When I revisit this note, I will not remember the hordes of mosquitos and other biters attacking me as I waited patiently for moonrise. I will remember this moon, these wispy clouds, the muted colors of day turning to dusk turning to night, quietly. I will remember the beauty of a warm July night. I will remember loving friends who lift me up and who I lift up… along with those who are strangers. I will reflect this gentle beauty back to everyone I meet over the coming days. So with this imperfect, perfectly blurry image of tonight’s full moon, I offer you a simple note of reminder. This moon, this energy is ours to enjoy, to share, whether we can see it or not. Every person on the planet is a recipient of this marvelous energy. Isn’t that amazing?
Sometimes my kids and I would change the words and say:
“I see the moon, the moon sees ME.
God bless the moon, and God bless WE!”

I hope you count your full moons, count your blessings and have a good night and a beautifully illuminating day!

Post-A-Day 2011 – Postcard from Spring

2011 April 2

While others share their signs of Spring
Snow here still hides most everything…
Yet, Spring brings light, not dull and gray
Clear Light begins to end the day

Crisp Clear Light

Light seen through woods, ‘tween trees
Brings contrast to the world we sees!
Colors in both bark and trunk
Lifting winter’s tired funk

Coyote Jokester

Coyote jokesters jump and play
Hide and seek in woods today
Across the frozen snow they trot
North then south, they slink and plot

Superior’s blocks of ice and snow
In sunlight cast their crystal glow
With each and every tiny drip
Spring loosens Winter’s chilly grip.

Winter dripping away...

While Water laughs a music score
Walls of ice still line the shore
Sparkling in a slow retreat
Giving way to patient heat

Crystal Walls

Sunshine! clear and crisp ‘til night
Then washing snow in sleepy light
Water droplets, ripples, flow
Signs of Spring beneath snow glow

Beneath the sheets of ice and snow...

2011 3 April ~ and today it snows once more! Spring comes slowly here. May your days be filled with sparkling light!

Post-a-Day2011~ Postcard From My Dream

As everyone else rhapsodizes about Spring coming, here we watch the snow melt slowly. There is still over a foot of snow lying in the woods. Deep circles of space have melted around tree trunks warmed by the sun. Sap is running in nicks and cuts in pine bark… old and new wounds healing.
I have been writing a lot and not posting. Limited time, a computer problem, asking for and receiving miracles on a daily basis, transferring work assignments to a new position (bi-lateral movement, not forward?) making new art and new choices… creating opportunities – I am springing back into life, even as the snow slowly disappears.
The only other visible signs of Spring, thus far, have been the LIGHT and no fresh snow! Longer, brighter days pulling me to the beach, if only briefly, where, from the low ground of the beach, high snowbanks still obscure the waters of Lake Superior and a few pebbles melt down through the snow. As the wind blows from the North, the snowpack/icepack on the Lake washes in to shore then back out again. On different days the wonderful water is visible from the bluff, or not, depending on the Wind.
The sky is crisp and clear with infinite light!
Some patches of sand and sandy snow are appearing along the row of melting pools lining the backside bases of the view blocking banks. Unable to go in the best of daylight for fresh photos you can see it here.
And so… my post-a-day is barely a post-a-month… I found I stopped posting because while I do write every day, some is not yet for public consumption. In my excitement to share, I find I share too much and secrets I am learning to keep.

Who will want to buy my books if they are all free here? Sometime ago, I made a commitment to myself and others, no longer give it all away for free. So while I develop things to be offered freely, and as I create to also sell, I have learned to discern abit more carefully.
Those who love my work and find value and inspiration here… Thank you. There will be more, and freebies galore.

Yet even I, dubbed Miracle Maker, love paying my bills. So when the book is ready for sale you will be the first to know!

In the meantime, here is a freebie from one of my mentors! Calling all writers, wordsmiths, wannabe writers and those with a dream to write and share your work: Give this a click and play!
SARK just announced SARK’s Wild Words Contest! It’s sort of combination between a writing contest and a treasure hunt…and EVERYONE who enters wins a prize! One person will win the JUICY GRAND PRIZE, which includes being FEATURED in your own “Magical Mini-Memoir” in the program – right alongside the other inspiring writers. Enter today – the contest ends April 8th! Plus, through April 8, there is an “Early Word Special” with a really nice discount. Enter SARK’s Wild Words Contest here!

May your day be filled with scrumptiousness – good food, good friends and writing with your favorite pen or crayon!
